The museum board was reorganized and a home for the museum was found in December of 2005. The museum is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit tax-exempt organization dedicated to promote and preserve the heritage and aviation history of K.I. Sawyer while honoring the patriotic service of its veterans and civilians. The air force base was named after Kenneth Ingalls Sawyer a former County Road Commissioner
