UPFlyFishing.com is the primary fly fishing website for Uncle Ducky Outfitters and is dedicated to Fly Fishing Upper Michigan’s Legendary Trout Waters.
The legendary waters we fish always find a place in heart of those who set foot in them. Thankfully for us, many people think these rivers are just that — legends. The filter of time has made people wonder whether the old stories are true. It is because of this we are able to keep the crowds down and fishing pressure almost zero. So, the legend is a secret we like to keep.
Ernest Hemingway fished these cold clear streams first as a young man in the early part of the 20th Century and made them famous in his “Nick Adams Stories”. The Two Hearted River sounded so good, he just had to write about it. However, the locals will tell you this wasn’t his favorite river. He didn’t dare publish his favorite fishing spot and risk spoiling it. Now that he’s gone, I don’t think he’ll mind us telling, The Fox River, not the Two Hearted was his favorite. You’ll just have to fish it to find out why.
However, Hemingway wasn’t the only author to make this region known to the fly fishing world. John Voelker- pen name- ”Robert Traver” was born and raised here in the Upper Peninsula and has written several award winning short stories on fly fishing and life here in the UP. “Trout Madness” and “Trout Magic” are great fireside books and should be read by all aspiring fly fishermen just to learn about what fly fishing gives back to you in terms not only of the fun of outsmarting a wily old Trout but how the woods and the waters make you appreciate the important things in life.

John Voelker was a local character, great trout fisherman,and good friend in these parts for over a half of a century until he went to the big trout stream in the skies in the early 1990’s. So when you fly fish up here, you are fishing streams in the company of the great legendary fly fishermen of the past. At Uncle Ducky Outfitters we honor the past and try keep that spark alive in your experience with us.
Uncle Ducky Outfitters offers several different experiences fly fishing in the rivers, streams, and lakes of the Upper Peninsula. We are most familiar with those located in the Central part of the UP but also fish the Fox, and Big-Two Hearted Rivers in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The Escanaba, Carp, Dead, Chocolay, Little Garlic, are our primary rivers in the Marquette area. Also Strawberry Lake, Brockey Lake, Clear Lake, and Wolf Lake are often visited on our trips. We offer wading trips, canoes and kayak trips, and drift boat trips. Dependant upon the time of year we are fishing for Steelhead, Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbows, Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, and Pink Salmon. We also offer fly fishing trips for Northern Pike, Muskie, Smallmouth Bass, and Bluegill.
We are not part time operators. This is our living. So along with our fly fishing trips, we offer other services such as Great Lakes Fishing Charters, Boat and Pontoon Rentals, Canoe & Kayak Rentals, Outdoor Website productions, and hosting & advertising. Many of our customers complete different types of fishing experiences with us on their vacations or trips.
We are an authorized Temple Fork Fly Rods Outfitter and use and recommend these products. On all of our trips we supply all of the required tackle, rods, reels, lines, flies, waders, and other necessary items. We supply lunch upon request and on all of our multiple day package trips it is included.
