Established in 1988 is the Upper Peninsula’s most complete adventure company. Offering adventure tours, outfitting and rentals we consider ourselves a Green company and stewards of the outdoors and we try to lean our business endeavors towards outdoor activities that are not harmful to the environment and our natural resources that are so abundant here in the UP.

Sea Kayaking in the Pictured Rocks is listed as one of the top 5 places in the United States to paddle a kayak in a scenic place by Sea Kayaker Magazine. The others are Glacier Bay, Alaska, the San Juan Islands of Washington, the Coast of Maine, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Uncle Ducky Outdoors offers a variety of sea kayaking tours, rentals, and instruction not only at the Pictured Rocks but at Grand Island which is nearby Pictured Rocks, Isle Royale, the Hiawatha Water Trail that runs from Big Bay to Grand Marais, the Les Chaneaux Islands, Drummond Island, the Straits of Mackinac and the St. Mary’s River. Paddling Michigan, www.paddlingmichigan.com, is our website where you can find information on all of these trips.

Canoeing and kayaking on our beautiful inland lakes and rivers here in the UP is another of our endeavors and there are many places that we can take you or recommend to see and experience lots of wildlife, fauna, geology, and solitude here in this land between the great lakes of Superior, Michigan, and Huron. Our website Paddling Michigan www.paddlingmichigan.com also has lots of information on canoeing and kayaking on specific rivers and lakes here.

If you are planning to do some camping on one of our trips and need some camping gear, check out our website at: www.upmichigancamping.com. We offer rentals of everything you will need from tents to backpacks and even cooking gear.

Hiking is another activity here in the Upper Peninsula that can give you many hours of enjoyment and exercise and at a very low cost. Pictured Rocks, the North Country Trail, the McCormick Tract Wilderness Area, Isle Royale, and Grand Island are some of the best places to take a hiking trip in the United States. It is not very crowded like some other areas can be. We offer both guided tours and information for self guided tours of these areas. Our website www.upmihikingtours.com will give you more detailed information.

The UP is crisscrossed by multiple small streams and rivers that flow into the surrounding Great Lakes. Being spring fed with cold water and with lots of insects there are trout in these waters. Namely Brook Trout, but also Browns and Rainbows, are abundant. One of the first people to make this area known to the world for great trout fishing was Ernest Hemingway who fished many of these streams as a boy and then later wrote about his experiences in the Nick Adams Stories. We fish many of these same rivers as Hemingway and even many more. If you have interest of would like to participate in a fly fishing trip with us on some of these rivers check out our website at: www.upflyfishing.com.

Deep Sea fishing on our Charter Boat the “Uncle Ducky” is how we got started in this business. Lake Superior offers, in addition to great fishing for Lake Trout and Salmon, some beautiful scenery. Lake Superior unlike Lakes Michigan, Huron, and Erie, was formed not by the great glaciers of the Ice ages but by the volcanic activity and movement of the land masses when the earth was formed billions of years ago. There are many islands, rock outcroppings, and deep canyons underwater, which make this lake special. On your fishing trips you’ll see this geology and your captain is full of history, stories, and tales of the golden eras of exploration of the Jesuit Priests of France, the Fur Trade era, mining and lumbering and the settlement of the peoples of this region. Our trips are not all about fishing although we always catch some. For more information go to www.uncleducky.com.
