Spring has sprung in Marquette County, and what better way to welcome the season than by indulging in ice cream! Marquette is home to some downright delicious options, here are four fantastic ice cream spots to try!

  1. Doncker’s

Located in the heart of Marquette’s downtown, Doncker’s is a full service ice cream parlor. While the lovingly restored soda fountain dates back more than a century, this place makes everyone feel young at heart. Perhaps the hardest choice to make once stepping inside is what type of treat to enjoy. Doncker’s features a wide variety of specialty candies and handmade chocolates, as well as hand-dipped ice cream, malts, sundaes and even phosphates, taking time to savor something sweet from Doncker’s will make a memory that lasts long after your treat is gone.

  1. Frosty Treats

Frosty Treats does one thing really well; soft serve! Whether it is a sprinkle cone, peanut-butter crunch sundae or banana split, Frosty Treats on Marquette’s Third Street is a one stop shop for a delicious soft serve treat. For locals, the annual April opening is like a holiday, seeing a line at the walk up window is a sure sign of spring.

If a visit to a real dairy brings back memories, head to Jilbert’s Dairy. Their Farm Store features an assortment of dairy products such as milk, cheese, yogurt and of course a superior selection of hand scooped ice cream, favorite flavors include Mackinac Island Fudge, Michigan Black Cherry and Blue Moon. Located just off of Highway U.S. 41, look for the bright red barn and giant statue of Jilly the Cow, who stands in the picnic area waiting to welcome visitors.

  1. Yoop-Phoria

Not all ice cream is created equal. In fact, some frozen treat connoisseurs actually prefer frozen yogurt. In that case, check out Yoop-Phoria, located on the corner of Washington and Third Streets in downtown Marquette, this is the newest parlor of its kind. This self-serve frozen yogurt shop features a rotation of 24 different flavors. The signature tart taste incorporates active cultures and healthy probiotics. Don’t tell the kids that Yoop-Phoria fro-yo could be classified as a healthy treat they will be too busy choosing toppings!
